The name "A Better Way" Therapy LLC was chosen because it means many things to us. Most important is that we hope our therapists can provide a better way for our clients and that their lives and the lives of their children are better because of their involvement with our company.
Bruce Hugunin LMHP, LADC
Executive Director Full-Time Therapist
Education: MA from the University of Kansas. BA From Buena Vista College
Experience: Before starting A Better Way Therapy, Bruce was a Director for outpatient services at a behavioral health company in Omaha and also worked for several places including Boys Town and Alegent Health Hospital.
Expertise areas: Bruce works with all types of clients. His major areas of focus include anger management, Marriage counseling and alcohol and drug issues

Dr. Jennifer Brendle
Education: Dr. Brendle got her Ph.D. from the University of North Dakota. Experience: Works at Heartland Family Services as well as A Better Way Therapy. Expertise areas: General Psychological Evaluations & Diagnostic Interview Exams. She will go to lock up facilities (such as DCYC) to do Psychological evaluations as well. Shannon Calabrese, M.S., LMHP, PLADC
Education: MA from Creighton University Experience: Shannon is an experienced Mental Health Counselor. She works with all types of clients. Shannon does well whether she is working with a resistant client or someone who wants therapy. Shannon has a reputation of being the consummate professional. Her clients speak highly of her. Expertise areas: Shannon’s major areas include Dual-diagnosis therapy, adolescent CD evaluations, Victim abuse, Depression, etc. Works well with clients of all ages. Dana Ritterbush, LIMHP, PLADC, CPC,
Education: MS from University of NE in Community Counseling
Experience: Completed an internship in a Domestic Violence Program. Worked at Heartland Family Service before joining the staff at A Better Way Therapy in 2009.
Expertise areas: Dana works well with victims of abuse, anxiety, marriage counseling, and elementary aged children. She is a registered provider for substance abuse services in the state of Nebraska and completes adult chemical dependency evaluations. Carole Nelson LMHP
Experience: Carole has over twenty years experience working with adolescents in school settings and in foster care. She also has ten years experience with providing in home therapy services to families in crisis. Gary Stessman, MS LMHP
Education: Graduated with a Master of Science degree from Bellevue University, he also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the College of Business. Experience: Over fifteen years experience providing therapy, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution to individuals and families. Gary has worked in schools, shelters, clinical, and in-home settings. Trained Treatment Foster Care consultants and Foster Parents, Long and Short-Term Residential clinicians, Behavioral Health professionals, and Academic Administrators across the United States. Laurie Crayne Full-Time Therapist
Education: MS from University of Bellevue in Health and Human Services.
Experience: Worked at the Behaven program for 10 years before joining the staff at A Better Way Therapy in 2012.
Expertise: Laurie works well with autistic, out of control children, victims of abuse, anxiety, depression, anger management, Children to adults. Laurie has done a great job building relationships with clients and has a good sense of humor.

Education: Master's of Science in Education specializing in Agency-Based Counseling from Wayne State College Experience: Yvonne worked for Boys Town for sixteen years and at Behaven part-time as a therapist. Yvonne has twenty years of experience working with children, adolescents, individuals, and families in crisis. Yvonne has worked in adoption centers, domestic violence agencies, foster care agencies, hospitals, in-home therapy services, shelters, and schools. Experience: Has worked as a mental health therapist in South Sioux City, Nebraska and surrounding areas for over 10 years.
Expertise areas: Janie is an Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner in the State of Nebraska. She supervises other therapists in addition to providing therapy. Janie has extensive experience working with foster children and cases referred by NHHS. She also has experience with victim issues, ADHD/ODD, anxiety, depression and couple's counseling. She is trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Janie conducts both in-home and in-office therapy.

Education: Graduated with a masters from Bellevue University Experience: Shawn was a Family Teacher for several years and worked as a therapist privately and for Beneficial Behavioral Health in Omaha. She also worked as a Director for the Nebraska Family Collaborative prior to joining our team.
